Batch Saligan - The PUP Mnl PLS Pioneer Batch Project

The PUP Pre-Law Society forges its commitment to uphold its pro-people advocacy and its effort to champion for human rights as it kicks-off its first-ever campaign project focusing on the status of Press Freedom in the country.

Together with an assembly of aspiring future pro-people lawyers, the organization is proud to inaugurate the members of the pioneer Batch Saligan as the forebearers of a promising legacy driven by the guiding principles of academic excellence, social awareness, and service to the Filipino people.

The heart of this project regards the current situation of Press Freedom as an utmost concern for it is not only an issue of those in the circle concerned in its persistence, but rather it is also a human rights issue that goes beyond the sphere of the journalism practice. PUP-PLS stand in solidarity with our media practitioners and its future successors as they traverse the demanding nature of their work amid threats, intimidation, and attacks from various forces.

The freedom of the press is a staple promise in ensuring the need of our society for progressive endeavors as recognized in Art. 2, Sec. 7 of the Constitution which emphasizes “the vital role of communication and information in nation-building."

Thus, as a socio-civic organization, we are urging the youth to take a stand and actively participate in our call to #DefendPressFreedom as it continues to hold its ground for media workers in the service of exercising the truth for the masses.

PUP-PLS has taken off to the rails in breaking new grounds as they explore the importance of Press Freedom in a series of events laid ahead to discuss:
